Clothing, Makeup & Grooming

Our website imagery is a great source of clothing that photographs great. In general, darker, solid colors that work well for you are a good starting point. Bring options if you are unsure, they are always good to have and we’ll recommend what will be best before we get started.
All of our recommendations in our clothing guide are tried and true for everyone, no matter what your shape or size. Keep in mind a little personal style is a good thing; bow ties, trendy glasses or vintage costume jewelry make your image stand out.
Grooming: Haircuts should be done 3 -7 days prior to your photo shoot if you feel you need one. A visit to your stylist for a fresh blowout can be done day of photography. Cosmetics should be worn as you normally do, about 10% more; apply carefully, after all it is photo day! Lip balm worn on its own or under lipstick adds a nice polish to everyone’s look.
Fit is very important. Jackets, shirts and blouses that lie flat without pulling or gapping are the key to a good photo.
Formal: Think classic. Pick your favorite suit that fits you well and is preferably a classic dark color like blue, gray or black, or choose a dark plum, or green. Stay away from anything with bold, distracting patterns or colors. Solid-colored shirts in pastel colors are the most flattering. If wearing a tie select a clean tie in any color. Solid ties, or ties with small patterns or thin lines are preferable to bold patterns and thick stripes.
Casual: Depending on your company or the clients you work with, a suit jacket with no tie or cardigan over t-shirt or blouse communicates confidence. Wearing a collared shirt with no jacket is a great business casual look. Long sleeves are more flattering than short sleeves for everyone.
Your own firm may have a prerequisite for your attire. Every business is different, it could be your bank pin, wearing a tie or not, or even both. Check in with your contact beforehand if this information was not provided with your photo request.

We do not have a person on staff, however if booking for yourself or having a firm photo day in the studio we do have room and you are welcome to schedule your own. Please let us know when you book your session if you would like to do so. We’ll adjust timing for this in our schedule.

Please plan to arrive at our downtown studio at your session time. Most often you will be the only client in our studio for this time. You will have time to change clothes, freshen up, and get input on outfits. If you think you may need more than 15 minutes for this let us know in advance

Our studio has its own building at 920 SW 13th Avenue in Downtown Portland. There is metered parking with the Parking Kitty Ap or credit card directly in front of our building between Salmon and Taylor streets. We are one of three buildings in this block so there are usually spots in front of, or close by around the block. Look for the green awning that says “Keene Studio”. We do not recommend parking in the lot adjacent to our building, it's a longer time requirement that you do not need.
-
Our entryway is bottom level with an open gallery space that leads to our Front door. We do lock our door, so we ask that you simply give it a knock. We do have a bell to alert us that you have arrived. If we do not immediately come out it's likely we are just finishing up another session and will be there as soon as possible.
-
Every session is a little different, but we allow time with all our in studio sessions for consultations on outfits, image review and selection besides the actual photography portion.
Individual basic studio sessions are 45 minutes to allow for dressing room time and choosing images.
Extended Studio and Metro Sessions are about an hour
Senior portrait sessions are 2 hours from entry to exit, including travel time in between locations in the Portland metro area.

Our studio starts with a Raw image format. This is the highest standard in our industry. It takes our production team some time to carefully prepare, retouch and create a set of files that will be easy for you to implement into spaces like Linkedin, websites and social media. If you choose your image at the time of your session it is a 7-10 day turn around for the finished product. For larger photography sessions on site your timeline will be established when we book your appointment.
-
We can accommodate launch dates and sensitive timing on press releases and announcements. It is easiest when you let us know in advance so we can adjust our production schedule. We do charge a rush fee as needed.
-
Absolutely! We have a great online gallery for viewing all your images. You can even create a list of favorites to help narrow things down. We are able to see your favorites on the backend and offer a consultation of which ones would work best for specific needs or placements.
-
Most sessions include a specific number of finished images in high resolution output. We also provide a cropped to fit Linkedin version with every individual session.
-
Setting up an account is easy! Basic billing information will get us started. We’ll create a profile in our database for you with all the specifics your company requires for photography and file delivery. You can refer your staff to our form and we’ll know what they need then they contact us.
-
Reach out to us if you have any concerns about the image you received. We want you to be happy with your finished image.
-
Artwork can be included on any image we produce. Normally it is built into your session fee along with the image itself.
-
Yes we would be happy to have you both, just let us know, it won’t take double the amount of time as we will already be set up with your company backdrop.
-
We do travel farther when we create a new brand look for your entire company.
-
Your image will be sent directly to our contact person at your firm, unless we are instructed otherwise. You can purchase a copy for yourself if they do not provide it for you.
-

Yes, over the years our name has changed a bit. Marie Keene and Edmund Keene, Sr purchased a studio photography business in the late 60’s from Edris Morrison. At that time the studio name was changed to Edmund Keene, Photographer. In the early 90’s we became Edmund Keene Photographers, then Ed Keene renamed it Keene Studio in 2008.
